Hit wicket is an unusual type of out. But BPL has seen that within five days of its journey. Darren Sammy, the all-rounder of Rangpur Riders was out in that fashion in a match against Sylhet SuperStars on November 26, 2015.
Sammy was on batting in that low scoring match at Mirpur. The Riders were 90 for five wickets after 16 overs. Sammy was on 5 and ready to face Nazmul Islam Apu. Sammy tried to play a cut shot in the first delivery of the 17th over. But the ball was too low to keep his balance. He was in back foot and misjudged his position. Eventually the bells were off as he hit the stamp by his bat.
The bowler Apu celebrated his trade mark ‘Chop Chop’ by two hands. Sammy, the former captain of West Indies shook his head in shock and left the field.
